* [[1968]] - The first parliamentary general election was held on 13 April 1968 (Sat) after Singapore gained independence in [[1965]]. As BS ([[Barisan Sosialis]]) boycotted the election, PAP was earlier returned to power unopposed after capturing 51 out of 58 seats on Nomination Day on 17 February 1968 (Sat) . Only 7 seats were contested on Polling Day.
