- 1968 - The first parliamentary general election was held on 13 April 1968 (Sat) after Singapore gained independence in 1965. As BS (Barisan Sosialis) boycotted the election, PAP was earlier returned to power unopposed after capturing 51 out of 58 seats on Nomination Day on 17 February 1968 (Sat) . Only 7 seats were contested on Polling Day.
