Goh Pei Ming is a Singaporean politician and former brigadier-general who currently serves as a Member of Parliament (MP) representing Marine Parade division of Marine Parade–Braddell Heights GRC. A member of the ruling People's Action Party (PAP), Goh entered politics in 2025 following a distinguished 24-year career in the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF).[1]

Early Life and Education

Goh Pei Ming was raised in Bedok North and studied at Fengshan Primary School, Dunman High School, and Victoria Junior College, where he was awarded the Wong Hung Khim trophy and was a President Scout. He received the prestigious SAF Overseas Scholarship and graduated with a Bachelor of Engineering in Civil Engineering (summa cum laude) from Cornell University. He later earned a Master of Arts in Defence Studies from King's College London and a Master of Science in Management Science and Engineering from Stanford University.[2]

Military Career

Goh joined the SAF in 2001 and was commissioned as an infantry officer. Over the years, he held several senior appointments, including:

  • Commander, 3rd Singapore Infantry Brigade
  • Head, Joint Operations Department
  • Head, Joint Plans and Transformation Department
  • Commander, 3rd Singapore Division

In 2010, Goh was deployed to Kandahar, Afghanistan, for seven months. He later attended the UK's Joint Services Command and Staff College, where he was named Top International Student. He also served as the Singapore Army Attaché to Jakarta.[2]

Goh was Chairman of the National Day Parade 2022 and played a key role in the inter-agency COVID-19 response, particularly in managing outbreaks in foreign worker dormitories. For his service, he was awarded the Public Administration Medal (Silver) in 2020.[2]

His final military appointment was Chief of Staff - Joint Staff, where he concurrently served as SAF Inspector-General and MINDEF's Chief Sustainability Officer. He retired from the SAF in March 2025 with the rank of Brigadier-General.[2]

Political Career

Goh began volunteering in grassroots activities in 2007 and served as Vice-Chairman (2019) and later Chairman (2021) of the Kampong Chai Chee Community Club Management Committee. [1]

He officially entered politics on 1 April 2025, when he joined the People's Action Party. He was fielded in the PAP team for Marine Parade–Braddell Heights GRC during the 2025 general election. The team was elected unopposed in a walkover. Goh assumed office as MP on 23 April 2025.[3]

Controversies

In April 2025, Goh faced public criticism after reports emerged suggesting that he had attended a closed-door event with military contractors shortly before retiring from the SAF. Although no formal investigation was announced, opposition figures raised concerns about potential conflicts of interest and revolving-door practices between military leadership and political appointments. The Ministry of Defence later clarified that the event was non-commercial and held in an official capacity.[4]

Separately, some netizens voiced discomfort over the swift transition from his role as Chief of Staff to a parliamentary candidate, questioning transparency and political neutrality within the public service.[4]

Personal Life

Goh has been married since 2009 to his former primary school classmate, and the couple has three children. He enjoys jogging, reading, and watching movies.[3]
