Joan Pereira
Joan Cheng Sim Pereira (born 1967) is a Singaporean politician from the ruling People's Action Party (PAP) and business executive. She has been serving as Member of Parliament (MP) for the Henderson–Dawson division within the Tanjong Pagar Group Representation Constituency (GRC) since 2015.
Education Pereira attended the Convent of the Holy Infant Jesus before continuing her studies at Catholic Junior College. She later earned a Bachelor of Arts from the National University of Singapore (NUS)
Career Pereira has built a career spanning both the public and private sectors. She is currently the Assistant General Manager at Temasek Cares, the philanthropic branch of Temasek Holdings, Singapore’s sovereign wealth fund. Before this role, she was the Director of Family Life and Active Ageing at the People’s Association, focusing on community development and social programs for families and older people.
Political Career Pereira entered politics in 2015 when the People’s Action Party (PAP) introduced her as a candidate for Tanjong Pagar GRC in the general election that year. She was elected and has since served as an MP for the constituency.
In Parliament, she has been actively involved in social and family-related policies. During the 14th Parliament of Singapore, she was appointed Deputy Chairperson of the Social and Family Development Government Parliamentary Committee (GPC), where she contributed to shaping policies on social welfare and family development.
