'Fashionable' not to own or drive a car

• 19 September 2018, as the chair of the Government Parliamentary Committee for Transport
• also part of the 15-member Land Transport Master Plan Advisory Panel
• he made the comment, "When you talk to the young, it appears to me that it is becoming very fashionable not to drive so much, maybe not even to own a car, and to take public transport more."
• invited unfavorable comparisons with another PAP MP Koh Poh Koon, who famously said "Everybody has a car, we have two," during his inaugural appearance as PAP candidate to contest the 2013 Punggol East SMC by-election and lost the 4-corner fight against WP's Lee Li Lian.
