Tan Kiat How made his political debut in the 2020 general election when he joined a five-member PAP team contesting in East Coast GRC. After winning the election, he was given the following political appointments:
- 13 June 2022 ~ present - Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Digital Development and Information & Ministry of National Development
- 15 May 2021 ~ present - Minister of State, Ministry of Communications and Information
- 27 July 2020 to 12 June 2022 - Minister of State, Ministry of National Development

Preveiously, he was chief executive officer of IMDA in 2017, charged with leading the merger of the Infocomm Development Authority and Media Development Authority to form IMDA, an agency under MCI.[1]
