Ang Wei Neng (born 31 March 1967) is a Singaporean politician and businessman. A member of the People's Action Party (PAP), he has been serving as a Member of Parliament (MP) for the Nanyang division of West Coast Group Representation Constituency (GRC) since 2020. Previously, he represented the Jurong Central division of Jurong GRC from 2011 to 2020. Beyond politics, Ang is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Strides Premier Pte Ltd, a joint venture between Strides Taxis Pte Ltd and Premier Taxis Pte Ltd. His professional journey spans roles in the public sector, transport management, and corporate leadership.

Early Life and Education
Ang Wei Neng was born in Singapore on 31 March 1967. He attended Nanyang Primary School, The Chinese High School, and Hwa Chong Junior College. He earned a Bachelor of Social Sciences in Economics from the National University of Singapore and later obtained a Master of Business Administration in Strategic Management from Nanyang Technological University.
Professional career
Singapore Police Force (1991–1997)
Ang began his career in the Singapore Police Force (SPF) as a scholar, contributing significantly by establishing the Police Psychological Unit and serving as Head of Operations in a land division.
Private Sector Roles
After leaving the SPF, Ang transitioned into the private sector, holding positions in various organizations, including American International Group, BexCom, Hiap Moh Corporation, and Mcare Lab.
SBS Transit and ComfortDelGro
In 2004, Ang joined SBS Transit as Senior Vice-President for omnibus operations in Singapore’s East District. His leadership in the transport sector continued as he became CEO of ComfortDelGro's Taxi Business in 2017.
Strides Premier Pte Ltd (2022–Present)
In 2022, Ang was appointed CEO of Strides Premier Pte Ltd, overseeing the operations of a joint venture between Strides Taxis and Premier Taxis.
Political career
Parliamentary Representation
Ang entered politics in 2011 as part of the PAP team contesting in Jurong GRC. He served as the MP for Jurong Central division from 2011 to 2020. During the 2020 general election, Ang was fielded in West Coast GRC, where his team narrowly secured victory with 51.7% of the vote. He has since represented the Nanyang division in Parliament.
Controversies
"Time Stamp" on Degrees
In March 2022, Ang proposed during a parliamentary debate that university degrees should have a "time stamp," requiring graduates to undertake upgrading courses every five years. This suggestion was met with widespread public criticism. Ang later apologized, clarifying that his remarks were intended as a policy recommendation.[1][2]
Remarks on Foreign Workforce (2020)
In a 2020 parliamentary speech, Ang expressed feeling "like a foreigner in my own country" during a visit to Changi Business Park due to the presence of many expatriates. His remarks sparked discussions about Singapore's reliance on foreign talent, with Ang emphasizing the importance of safeguarding a strong Singaporean core in senior management roles.[3]
