Louis Chua

Chua Keng Wee Louis is a Singaporean politician from the Workers' Party (WP) and a financial professional serving as a Member of Parliament (MP) representing the Riverdale division of Sengkang GRC since 2020. He was elected in the 2020 general election.

Early Life and Education

He received early education at Townsville Primary, Anderson Secondary, and Hwa Chong Institution. Chua studied at the National University of Singapore (NUS), earning a double degree in Accountancy and Business Management from Singapore Management University.

Career

Chua is an equity research analyst. He is also a certified Chartered Accountant in Singapore and ASEAN.

Political career

Entry into Politics

Chua joined the Workers' Party (WP) and was nominated as a candidate in Sengkang GRC for the 2020 general election. His team competed against the People’s Action Party (PAP) and obtained 46.61% of the vote, marking the strongest-ever opposition performance in the GRC. He was subsequently elected as MP for Punggol Shore.

Parliamentary Work

As an MP, Chua has focused on: Financial and economic policies, particularly advocating for greater transparency in government spending. Employment and social welfare, focusing on support for low-income families and job security in Singapore. Housing policies call for affordable housing and sustainable urban planning.

He is a member of the Public Accounts Committee in Parliament, where he contributes to oversight of government expenditures.
