Political career

Kwek began his political career the 2015 general election as part of a five-member People's Action Party (PAP) team contesting in Nee Soon GRC. He was in charge of the Kebun Baru ward under Nee Soon GRC. In the 2020 general elections, Kwek was named as a single PAP candidate for the Kebun Baru. He won 62.97 per cent of votes against his opponent from the Progress Singapore Party (PSP).

Voluntary activities

Kwek is passionate for serving communities. He set up Hope Collective to provide support for underprivileged communities. Also, he actively promotes Chinese culture and tradition through his roles in multiple cultural organizations.

Controversies

Kwek triggered a controversy after his letter responding to the Workers’ Party (WP) criticism over the government’s public housing management was published at the Straits Times Forum in February 2023.[1]

The letter came three days after the WP responded to the PAP social media channels regarding the 2019 Housing Paper. The WP accused the PAP social media channels of misinterpreted the context by posting one paragraph at page 47 of the Workers’ Party’s 2019 Housing Paper, “Counting Down to Zero: Are there Alternatives to VERS”, and narrowly interpreted it as a call to build fewer BTO flats.[2]
