Liang Eng Hwa
Liang Eng Hwa (Chinese: 连荣华; pinyin: Lián Rónghuá; born 20 March 1964) is a politician from the governing People's Action Party (PAP). He previously represented the Zhenghua division of the Holland-Bukit Timah Group Representation Constituency (GRC) from 2006 to 2020. He has been representing Bukit Panjang Single Member Constituency (SMC) since 2020.

Education
Liang attended Bukit Panjang English School and Anderson Secondary School. He completed a diploma in civil engineering from Singapore Polytechnic in 1984. He subsequently obtained a Bachelor of Commerce with first-class honors from the University of Melbourne, where he earned accolades such as the National Australia Bank Scholarship and the Price Waterhouse Book Prize.
Career
Before entering politics, Liang had an extensive career in the banking sector. He began his career with DBS, where he was promoted to managing director of the institutional banking group. In addition to that, he was a board member of the Urban Redevelopment Authority from 2009 to 2018.
Political career
Liang's political career commenced in 2006 when he was elected to a PAP team in Holland-Bukit Timah GRC, winning uncontested. He secured his position in subsequent elections, including the 2011 general election, where he garnered 60.08% of the vote against the Singapore Democratic Party. In 2020, he transitioned to contest Bukit Panjang SMC, winning 53.7% of the votes against SDP's Paul Tambyah.
Liang debuted in politics in 2006 when he was one of the PAP members. After winning the election, he was a member of parliament for the Zhenghua division as one of the members of Holland Bukit Timah GRC.
Liang was re-elected after the PAP controlled 60.08% of the vote against the Singapore Democratic Party in the 2011 election. In the general election of 2020, he switched to Bukit Panjang SMC, gaining 53.7% of the votes against SDP's Paul Tambyah.
Liang has been outspoken about key issues such as sustainable development, better public transportation facilities, and developing a home-bred industry. In the parliamentary debate, Liang questioned the sustainability of high-consuming water sectors, wondering whether conducting thorough reviews on the non-domestic sector and considering rationalization efforts was possible.[1]
Personal life
Liang lives with his parents, his wife, and three children. Besides his political activities, he is a musician who plays saxophone and the drums.
He was diagnosed with early-stage nasopharyngeal cancer in July 2023, forcing him to take a break for seven weeks due to radiotherapy.[2]
