Rachel Ong

Rachel Ong Sin Yen (born 1973) is a prominent Singaporean politician and business leader. She is a member of the People's Action Party (PAP) and has represented the Telok Blangah constituency within the West Coast Group Representation Constituency (GRC) as a Member of Parliament (MP) since 2020. Additionally, Ong is the Founder and CEO of ROHEI Corporation, a consulting and learning company based in Singapore. She is also the chairperson of The Purple Parade, a major initiative in Singapore aimed at promoting inclusion and recognizing the talents of individuals with disabilities.

Education

Ong completed her pre-university education in Canada at Columbia College and continued her academic journey in the United States at Southern Illinois University. She later earned an MBA through a joint program between INSEAD and Tsinghua University.

Career

Ong founded ROHEI in 2007, which has since grown into a successful learning and consulting organization, employing more than 60 full-time consultants. ROHEI has provided training programs to over 100,000 executives in a variety of sectors, including healthcare, education, finance, government, and information technology. Ong is also deeply involved in charitable work, particularly as the patron of Trybe, a nonprofit organization focused on supporting youth. She initially joined Trybe in 2001 and later created ROHEI with a focus on enhancing leadership and promoting positive work culture. A portion of the company's profits is allocated to helping underprivileged communities.

In 2021, Ong took on the leadership of The Purple Parade, a major movement in Singapore dedicated to advocating for the inclusion of individuals with disabilities and celebrating their abilities.

Political career

Ong began her political career 2020, when she became a part of the PAP team for the West Coast GRC during the general election. On July 10, 2020, the PAP secured victory with 51.68% of the vote, defeating the Progress Singapore Party. This victory allowed Ong to become the MP for Telok Blangah.

In her parliamentary role, Ong contributes to various Government Parliamentary Committees, including Defence, Foreign Affairs, and Manpower. She also serves as an advisor to grassroots organizations in Telok Blangah and as the vice-chairperson of the West Coast Town Council. In October 2024, she co-chaired the PAP Mental Health Group.

Ong is passionate about fostering inclusivity and cooperation in Singapore, particularly focusing on families and youth. She set up a mentoring program designed for students aged 11 to 17.[1] The program, called The Telok Blangah Mentoring Club, provides plenty of opportunities for participants to explore various subjects such as arts, music, business, sports, and nature. Additionally, Ong partners with local residents for the environment protection efforts in her constituency.
